Sunday January 19, the parents of Le Cavalier students and the De Chaumont à Mayotte association are organizing a charity concert for Mayotte at the Bouchardon space at 3 p.m. Spectators will be able to make a financial donation to the association.
In Chaumont, we are mobilizing to help the inhabitants of Mayotte. Sunday January 19, the parents of Le Cavalier students and the De Chaumont association in Mayotte are organizing a charity concert at the Bouchardon space at 3 p.m. Teacher at the Pablo Picasso nursery school, Sylvie Lafay explains the birth of this project. “Just before the Christmas holidays, parents of students from Mayotte suggested that we organize a cake sale to raise funds. Having asked parents a lot over the past year, we suggested that they organize a concert instead. An event that would reach more people and therefore raise more money for their cause. »
The two Chaumontese associations contacted Martine Capelle, formerly a professor of musical education at La Rochotte college and choir director of a choir who “was thrilled by the initiative”. “Apart from participating in the Telethon each year, this is the first time that the choir has participated in this type of event,” indicates the teacher and also a member of the choir. “For this concert, the vocal ensemble will offer an eclectic program ranging from French variety to international repertoire. For example, “Salted Popcorn” by Santa or “Hotel California” by Eagles. There will be solos, duets and trios. We offered parents of students of Mahorese origin the opportunity to introduce local songs to the public. »
For the venue of the concert, the parents of the Cavalier students and the De Chaumont association in Mayotte had initially opted for the Berlioz room at the music conservatory. “However, this choice limited us in terms of spectators. Finally, we asked the director of community life to make a request for the Bouchardon space. Touched by the cause defended, he accepted our request. Normally, these steps must be taken at least one month in advance. » Throughout the performance, Chaumontais residents will be able to purchase Mahorais cakes. A call for financial donations has been launched.

Who is the De Chaumont association in Mayotte?
“It was created by Mahorese families from Chaumont in the week of Cyclone Chido (Saturday December 14). Fifteen days after the disaster, we carried out a food collection which was successful. Thanks to a humanitarian container, the fruit of this harvest was able to be transferred to Mayotte. Today, we still receive donations. They are stored in my garage. We are facing a routing problem, as we now have to pay for the transportation ourselves. At the moment, a question is running through our minds: do we buy what we need or do we donate to an organization that intervenes on site? For the moment, we are still thinking about it,” says Fatima Ahamadi.
