A scene of great violence which shocked passers-by took place this Sunday, January 12, 2025 near the Part-Dieu station, in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon. Witnesses, alerted by cries of an animal in pain coming from a bag carried by a man, called the police.

The living goat was muzzled, tied and beaten

The individual arrested by the police is a 25 year old Nigerianaccording to our colleagues at ProgressWho carried a live goat in a sports bag.

The animal was imprisoned in this bag, muzzled and its legs tied with ropes. The man hit the little animal, tried to wring its neck and slammed its head on the ground, causing the goat to scream.

He planned to slaughter the animal and eat it

According to the first elements of the open investigation, the suspect intended to illegally slaughter the animal in order to eat it.

The police warned the Lyon SPA to care for the injured animal. According to the association, he showed signs of abuse and weakness but was able to escape. He will be put up for adoption and the police and the SPA are trying to trace his origins. A complaint was filed by the Animal Protection Society.

A judicial investigation has been opened and the suspect should be prosecuted for animal abuse.
