After the closure of the ready-to-wear brand Défi Mode in 2019, the commercial building located in the Fromental area of Yssingeaux became a vaccination center during the Covid pandemic.
The premises had remained vacant since. But part of it is about to be transformed into a 500 m² air-conditioned gym.
“We fell in love with Yssingeaux”
Behind the project, a couple from Saint-Maurice-en-Gourgois (Loire), Raphaël and Coralie Fernandes. In 2022, the two athletes took the reins of the Velay Fitness room at Mazel in Monistrol-sur-Loire, since renamed Co'Fitness.
“But we always had the idea of setting up a venue in Yssingeaux, a town we fell in love with. We looked for a place for a long time. And one day, while having lunch at the restaurant in the area, we saw this empty building,” recalls Raphaël Fernandes.
The Monistrolian club went from 250 to 700 members in three years
It must be said that the Monistrolian club has continued to see its membership increase over the years. “In three years, we went from 250 to nearly 700 members today. Many are from Yssingelais or work in Yssingeaux. Moving here was therefore a logical next step for us. »
The concept should be similar to the offer currently offered at Mazel. “We want to keep our family spirit, while offering a gym open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day with a weight training area, group classes and personal coaching,” explains Raphaël Fernandes, currently training to become a coach.
“We will be able to relieve congestion on the Monistrol site and complete our range of machines so that it remains interesting for our current members, who will be able to take advantage of the two rooms. »

Opening by September 2025
Three packages with or without commitment will be offered from 21.80 euros and up to 46.90 euros per month depending on the options. A special student rate will also be put in place. “We are also considering a partnership with the bowling alley next door, as we are currently doing with the Ozen swimming pool in Monistrol-sur-Loire, in order to offer advantageous rates to users of both structures. »
Work is expected to begin at the end of January. “Floors, paints, ceilings, air conditioning, changing rooms, we take everything back. For the moment, it's still an empty board. »
The parking lot is already being renovated. The couple has set the goal of opening for the start of the school year in September.
