On March 10, 2024, the first edition of the Foulées de la Voie Verte brought together 300 competitors on the paths of the Argenton countryside. This success reflected the dynamism of the organizing club, Les Coureurs de la Voie Verte, made official only a year ago. It was part of a process begun in 2019, when a small group met every Sunday in the parking lot of the Pêchereau library for joint training.
Travel to Italy and Mexico
These beginnings in a select committee snowballed, and the membership gradually grew since the association currently has thirty-nine members with various motivations. Some run simply for fun, while others participate in local, regional, and even national events. “We fielded two teams at the Ekiden in Châteauroux and our colors were represented in numerous competitions in France, but also abroad, whether in Italy, at the Venice marathon and in Mexico, at the half-marathon from Cancun”, underlines Christophe Gateau, the club secretary.
The activity of the Greenway Runners, who can now use the athletics track at the Marais sports complex, is divided between two training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. at the Lothaire-Kübel center , and Friday from 6 p.m., for a specific muscle strengthening session.
-The trail will offer three routes
While trips on trails and long-distance events, including the Barcelona marathon, are planned for the start of the year, registrations for the second edition of the Foulées de la Voie Verte have been open since December 2. The event will take place on Sunday March 9, from the Argenton-sur-Creuse multipurpose hall, and will offer three courses of 5, 11, and 23 km, traced in the surrounding countryside, without forgetting the roller coaster of the town du Pêchereau. “The objective of welcoming even more people than last year”, admits Christophe Gateau, charged by President Michaël Coquelet with ensuring communication around the event to succeed in this challenge.
