Syndicom is mobilizing against the closure of post offices in Jura. The Arc Jurassien section of the media and communications union is organizing a protest demonstration in front of Parliament in Delémont on February 19. The yellow giant announced in October 2024 the list of its subsidiaries potentially affected by a closure. Among the 17 remaining in the Jura, 8 are in the hot seat.
The regional secretary of Syndicom expects in particular that the Jura ministers, as well as the national and state advisors, take a clear position on the problem of post office closures. “When we hear them on the media, I find them lukewarm,” exclaims Jean-François Donzé.
Around 10,000 more Jura residents would be affected and harmed by the closure of the eight Post Office subsidiaries in the cantonal territory, according to an estimate from the regional secretary of Syndicom. The latter recalls the certain free will shown by the yellow giant which can go against the recommendations issued by the Federal Postal Commission (PostCom). PostCom should also clearly say no to post office closures, believes Jean-François Donzé.
“Everyone thinks that the Post Office is going to do something for the population but I can assure you that it is the opposite,” notes Jean-François Donzé who encourages the unions and the Jura population to come and demonstrate on February 19 from 7:30 a.m. in front of the Parliament in Delémont. /ech
