ADEMIG denounces erroneous statements about Senegal’s natural resources

These comments, described as sensationalist, are denounced for their misleading nature and for the negative impact they could have on the perception of Senegal’s natural resources. ADEMIG insists on the need for scientific rigor and recalls several fundamental points:

1. The distinct genesis of natural resources

Formation of precious metals: Gold, for example, is formed exclusively in ancient bedrock contexts, particularly of Precambrian age, which is mainly found in the eastern region of Senegal.

Origin of hydrocarbons: Oil and gas, on the other hand, come from sedimentary basins of secondary and tertiary age, located in the western and offshore regions.

Since these geological environments are radically different, it is impossible for them to produce these resources simultaneously.

2. The importance of scientific rigor

The Association reminds that any communication on natural resources must be based on reliable data validated by experts. The dissemination of misinformation not only harms public understanding, but also compromises the nation’s strategic interests.

3. The dangers of misinformation

The media coverage of undocumented comments creates confusion among citizens, altering their perception of the real issues linked to natural resources. This type of disinformation also threatens national sovereignty and weakens the credibility of professionals in the sector.

A call for responsibility

The Association reaffirms its commitment to fair and transparent information on Senegal’s natural resources. She invites the media to favor qualified experts, to guarantee relevant and constructive debates.

Finally, ADEMIG calls on “Mr. Arona Niang” to renounce the dissemination of erroneous statements and to adopt a posture of responsibility and scientific rigor, essential to sustainable development and the optimal management of natural resources in Senegal and Africa.
