Loire Valley Metropolis Tours alert. For several days, individuals have presented themselves to the inhabitants of Tours Métropole Val de Loire as metropolitan agents to sell electronic chips to put on trash cans.
If in doubt, call 17
This is a scam. In fact, metropolitan agents who come to your home must always present their professional card.
Metropolitan agents never sell this type of equipment.
In case of doubt or incident, contact the police immediately on 17.
Police advice
If a tout shows up at your door, the police provide some good reflexes:
- If you can, check the number of people present before opening the door (via the videophone or peephole).
- Require the presentation of a professional card.
- Do not sign anything before having the quote in hand.
- Do not pay money or sign a check, especially a backdated one.
- If in doubt, suggest calling the professional organization to which the direct seller is attached.
- If the seller appears insistent or threatening, immediately dial 17 to call the police or gendarmerie.
If you have been the victim of a scam, in the majority of cases, it is possible to file a complaint directly online, without needing to go to a police station or gendarmerie. The online complaint is available for acts of damage to property, such as theft or damage, where the perpetrator is unknown.
The online complaint concerns the following offenses:
- Any attack against your property committed in France by a person whose identity you do not know:
- Vol (cell phone, car, bank card, etc.),
- Burglary,
- Deterioration of property (car scratches, graffiti, etc.),
- Scam (hors Internet).
