Ousmane Sonko ended his visit to Mauritania yesterday. There were several meetings, including discussions on energy issues, migration and transport. Apix and Apim will have to carry out major investment projects between the two countries. Par Dieynaba Kane –
Senegal and Mauritania are part of “a common desire to transform bilateral economic relations into an exemplary model of regional partnership, focused on economic integration and sustainable development”. It is in this perspective that as part of the visit of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to Mauritania and at the invitation of his counterpart Mokhtar Ould Diay, a “public-private round table was organized at the Palais des Congrès in Nouakchott by the ‘Agency for the Promotion of Investments in Mauritania (Apim) and the Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works in Senegal (Apix)’. According to a joint press release from the two structures, “this strategic meeting brought together major economic players such as representatives of employers’ organizations, members of the Senegalese-Mauritanian Business Council, ambassadors, general directors of the Apim and Apix agencies as well as multi-sectoral ministerial delegations”. In the same document, it is indicated that “the discussions focused on crucial themes aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries”. The authors of the document inform that it is about “strengthening economic ties, encouraging the complementarity of key sectors, such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure and trade for better regional economic integration, improving the business climate: identifying measures to facilitate bilateral investments. In addition, there are plans to “strengthen private investment: promote public-private partnerships and encourage complementary initiatives”.
It is also underlined that “this round table marks a new stage in the dynamic of collaboration between Apim and Apix materialized by several flagship initiatives”. The two structures thus recall the “Dakar Economic Forum, organized in October 2024, and the signing of a historic memorandum of understanding between the two agencies, the creation of a Mauritania-Senegal Business Council, which is a framework of exchange and cooperation for investors, the working visit of the Director General of Apix to Mauritania, last November, which made it possible to align efforts to maximize the impact of joint actions.
