Five years after her election as mayor of Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes (North), Marie Cau resigned, report our colleagues from La Voix du Nord. The councilor is officially no longer mayor of the town as of Tuesday, January 14.
Since October, the former mayor of Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes has fought tirelessly with her opponents, elected to the positions of first and third deputies.
The first transgender mayor to be elected in France in 2020, Marie Cau will nevertheless continue to sit on the benches of the municipal council.
A “toxic climate”
In a leaflet distributed to residents, specifies the local newspaper, the former mayor of Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes spoke of “the precarious status of mayor”, “the decline in state funding”, “increasing exposure to incivility and verbal violence or even “the absence of collaboration” within a municipal council “with a toxic climate”.
-From now on, Catherine Uytterhaegen, first deputy opponent, will serve as interim mayor pending next elections.
Starting this Tuesday, the municipal council has 15 days to elect the new mayor of the municipality.
