Saturday January 4, 2025, Roland Foucaultmayor of Préaux (Mayenne), presented his best wishes to his constituents and to the new residents of the town.

He first mentioned the work carried out in 2024 (repair of the gate and modification of the entrance to the cemetery), before focusing on future projects including the repair of the roof of the church damaged in 2022 by hail.

1.8 million € of work to renovate the roof of the church

The mayor affirms “that the roof must be completely redone and perhaps more depending on the state of the framework and the masonry part. Water leaks on the altar are currently deplored ».

He adds that a first estimate is 1.8 million euros. The work will last several years with four phases. The first phase which should begin in June 2025 (8 months of work for €500,000) will involve removing water and air from the building with some masonry work.

Possibility to make donations

A building permit has been filed for this work. Subsidy applications are submitted. The mayor deplores “ the heaviness and duration of the procedure and the assembly of the file which amplifies the damage to the building ».

He recalls that “ tax-exempt donations addressed to the heritage foundation would make it possible to save the church which belongs to us all.” The interior also needs to be renovated. The church is currently open every day.

A video surveillance system

The mayor deplored “the problems of incivility in the cleanliness area “. In 2025, the issuance of a badge in two stages will allow everyone to count the weight of waste and compare it with the price actually paid (more or less).

In a few weeks this space will be protected by a video surveillance system.
