It is not only in mainland France where traffic offenses are numerous. In the overseas departments and territories, the police also issue numerous fines during each road operation. Thus, reports the Guadeloupean press, during the weekend of January 3 to 5, 2025 alone, 27 driving licenses were suspended by the gendarmes during road checks on the roads of Guadeloupe, and 133 various offenses in total, fines also drawn up by the police forces.
The scourge of alcohol and drugs
Like the city of Marseille where driving licenses “jump” on the fly, the causes of the licenses withdrawn this January in Guadeloupe are as follows, local media report again: 15 for driving under the influence of narcotics, 11 for driving under the influence of alcohol13 for lack of insurance, 10 for speeding, 8 for using a telephone while driving, 7 for not wearing a helmet, 6 for not wearing a seat belt, 5 for not having a driving license and 3 for a refusal to comply. Finally, remember that in Guadeloupe, 54 people died in a traffic accident in 2024.
