76 migrants on board a boat were rescued off the coast of Calais (Pas-de-Calais) on the evening of Monday January 13, indicates the maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea in a press release published Tuesday evening.
The boat, spotted off the coast of Calais and which was heading towards England, suffered “engine failure” during the crossing of the Channel. All 76 people were rescued and dropped off in Calais by emergency services. Two of them were taken care of by Samu.
The maritime prefect of the Channel and the North Sea once again reminds “that this maritime sector is one of the busiest areas in the world, with more than 600 commercial ships passing through it per day and the weather conditions are often difficult”. It warns of the risks faced by people trying to cross the Channel.
