The Norman illustrator Yves Montron presents his new book Normandy Illustrated and France a little too… published just before the end of year holidays.
The richness of heritage
As in his previous book, Forty years of illustrations in the South of EureYves Montron presents here an overview of his illustrations created during his career in publishing, the press or advertising.
This new opus is an open showcase on the richness of our known heritage and some little-known gems.
Yves Montron has indeed crisscrossed French villages and trails to unearth treasures.
If we find detailed drawings of famous monuments throughout the pages, such as the Chartres Cathedral or Mont Saint Michel, Yves Montron pays particular attention to the rich heritage of the Normandy and French countryside.
Village maps
Chapters are thus devoted to calvaries, mills, wash houses and lighthouses on our coasts. There are also maps of villages and city districts, without forgetting the natural heritage.
Like the Marais d'Aulnay, a haven of greenery located in the heart of factories and warehouses, near the container port of Rouen. Or the park of the Château d'Harcourt where stands a Lebanese cedar exceeding five meters in circumference and the botanical garden of Amouhoques in Seine-Maritime, which brings together nearly three hundred plant species from the region of Caux and Normandy.
Anecdotes told in the book
Elsewhere in Sarthea tourist map of Lude takes the reader to discover its castle, its wash house and its mare barn, a rare building since there are only two of these “maternities for mares” left in France. That of Lude is currently being restored to eventually house a museum and lodges.
So many stories and anecdotes told in this fascinating and abundant book, to leaf through as you wish!
