According to the Valais police, it could have gone badly wrong. Monday shortly after 6 p.m., officers were carrying out a heavy traffic check on the A9 motorway, near Saint-Maurice when they intercepted a truck registered in Romania. This was followed by an inspection at the dedicated center in Saint-Maurice, where “the agents noted that a highly flammable and corrosive liquid was escaping from the semi-trailer”.
“The in-depth inspection of the loading made it possible to quickly identify the origin of a liquid leak escaping from a damaged metal drum,” says the Valais police, which specifies that the substances concerned “are dangerous and represent a danger to the environment. The area where the truck was parked had to be secured. Many firefighters were mobilized as well as an ambulance, just in case. In the end, no one was injured. The driver was reported “and faces a heavy fine”.
