LAUNCH OF THE NEW INITIATIVE FOR THE HUMANIST TRANSFORMATION OF EDUCATION (NITHE) IN SENEGAL

Senegal has taken a major step in the reform of its education system with the institutional validation of the New Initiative for the Humanist Transformation of Education (NITHE). This innovative approach, which will be implemented immediately, aims to train, by 2035, citizens deeply anchored in African and spiritual values.

During the ceremony held in Diamniadio, the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mbamba Guirassy, underlined the urgency of integrating NITHE at all levels of the education system, both central and decentralized. “What has just been validated must be immediately integrated into schools,” he declared, emphasizing the importance of effective communication for communities to take ownership of the initiative.

NITHE is part of a vision of an inclusive and efficient educational society, where endogenous African and spiritual values play a central role. Minister Moustapha Mbamba Guirassy recalled that “what makes man, what makes a nation, is essentially the basis of values”, highlighting the importance of values in achieving scientific, technological and social advances. .

The ceremony brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including education experts, traditional communicators, civil society organizations, and education sector unions. This diversity reflects NITHE’s inclusive approach, which relies on collaboration and participation to ensure its success.

The minister encouraged all stakeholders to maintain this collaborative dynamic to give the initiative its full substance. He also stressed the need for regular reporting to the authority to ensure effective monitoring of implementation.

By integrating African and spiritual values at the heart of education, NITHE aspires to train a new generation of citizens capable of contributing to the sustainable development and social cohesion of the country. “It is through values that we move towards science, towards technology, towards peace, democracy,” concluded Mr. Guirassy.
