Selon The Independent during the 8e Conference of Ambassadors, which brings together diplomatic representatives from around the world, Albares did not give a date for the resumption of customs activities, following the failure of a trade mission on January 8, where shipments from Spain were been turned back by Morocco.
“Both countries thought that the 8th could be the day when there would be an official first step. There have been several tests which, certainly, have been conclusive and positive. And yet, there is still work to be done by both customs to definitively resolve any technical issues that may remain.”, Albares briefly slipped in response to a question this Monday, without providing more details on these “technical problems”.
This blockage comes as Morocco requests concessions on the Sahara airspace and seeks support from Spain to assert its sovereignty over the region, adds the same source.
Criticizing the attacks of the Popular Party, Albares reaffirmed his commitment to the cities of Sebta and Melilia, promising an opening in line with the political commitments made with Morocco.
Since Melilia, the government of Juan José Imbroda has strongly criticized the failed attempt. In Sebta, President Juan Vivas said he would demand from Albares “enough information” on the opening of commercial customs which, according to him, “must be approached with responsibility, statesmanship and institutional loyalty”.
