In 2024, parties will spend 15 million on online advertising

The total ban on social networks for under-16s divides the Belgian political class: “It is neither realistic nor desirable”

Vlaams Belang, on the other hand, significantly increased its spending, from 1.70 million in 2023 to 2.35 million in 2024, and occupies first place. Only one European party, British Labor, spent more than the far-right Flemish party.

Vooruit occupies second place on Meta with 1.19 million euros in spending compared to 420,000 euros in 2023. The third biggest spending party was the PTB with 1.07 million euros, just ahead of the CD&V and its 1, 06 million euros spent. After the N-VA, Groen (710,000 euros) and Open Vld (470,000 euros) bring up the rear.

Last year, Google tripled its advertising revenue from political parties with 1.46 million euros, compared to half a million in 2023. Here too, Vlaams Belang was the biggest spender (391,000 euros) ahead of Vooruit (284,000 euros) and Groen (189,000 euros).
