“When will there be a real space strategy for ?”

TRIBUNE – must imperatively defend its status in this theater of operations that is space and regain its historic place among the concert of nations, argues the RN deputy for and vice-president of the defense committee.

By stating that the « space domain is also a space of confrontation where certain States may be tempted to use force to deny access or threaten the integrity of its components.s », the 2017 strategic review of defense and national security constituted a major turning point for France, which made public its space defense strategy (SSD), embodied by the Space Command (CDE) in 2019. This sheet of route aimed to provide armies with military space capabilities capable of defending France's freedom of access and action to, in and from space. Preserving our national interests in space constitutes a strategic imperative for all our armies, among which we can distinguish a general awareness: whoever has control of space will have control of land operations!

But, five years after the publication of the SSD, where are we? It is clear that we have cruelly lacked vision and ambition given the considerable delay accumulated by France vis-à-vis its strategic competitors and our downgrading among them. However, as a space power, France must imperatively defend its status in this unique theater of operations that is space and regain its historic place among the concert of nations. Our country, which has always been at the top of the ranking, still enjoys pre-eminence in Europe in this sector. It is therefore important to preserve this strategic advance while there is still time and, in this regard, the defense of our sovereign interests must cease to be a dirty word for those who govern us.
