Morocco among military leaders in Africa in 2025

The latest ranking of the most powerful armies in the world for the year 2025, published by the American site Global Fire Power, showed that Morocco stands out as an increasingly influential military force on the African continent. Although it occupies seventh place in Africa with an index of 1.1273, the Kingdom ranks 59th in the world, consolidating its position among the main military powers in the region.

The 2025 edition of the world ranking of the most powerful armies, published by the specialized American site Global Fire Power (GFP), Egypt confirms its dominant position in Africa, occupying first place on the continent and rising to 19th place in the world . This global ranking, which evaluates the armed forces of 145 countries on the basis of more than 60 criteria, highlights the strategic importance of Morocco, particularly through its continued investments in its defense capabilities. The country’s military power index, although down slightly compared to some of its direct neighbors, remains remarkable given the challenges it faces.

Morocco, with a modern air fleet and a strengthened navy, stands out for its air forces, which are among the most sophisticated in Africa. Moroccan fighter jets, whose fleet includes American F-16s and Mirages, are constantly being updated to maintain technological and tactical superiority in the region. In addition, Morocco has well-trained elite troops and an increasingly efficient logistics infrastructure, thus strengthening its capacity for projection and reaction to regional crises.

The country also benefits from significant international support from its partners, including the United States, and Spain, enabling it to maintain a robust defense capability despite its economic challenges. Morocco’s military budget, although modest compared to other major powers, is used strategically to optimize resources and modernize essential military equipment.

Military cooperation with these Western countries allows Morocco to benefit from cutting-edge know-how in key areas such as cybersecurity, troop training and management of military resources.

In addition to its conventional armed forces, Morocco is also establishing itself as a major player in the field of security and counter-terrorism in North Africa and the Sahel. The country’s geopolitical position, at the crossroads between Europe, Africa and the Middle East, makes it an essential partner in the fight against extremism and terrorism. Its cooperation with international powers allows it to carry out peacekeeping and security operations, particularly in the Saharan zone, where it has been able to strengthen its influence.

Furthermore, the integration of defense into Morocco’s national development reflects a long-term strategic vision. In 2025, Morocco continues to structure its defense capabilities in a logic of resilience, by investing in sectors such as military training, the defense industry and advanced technologies. These investments allow it not only to respond to internal challenges, but also to play a stabilizing role in the regional context, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
