A man in his fifties was shot this Saturday, January 11 in the evening in a sensitive area of Rennes and his life is in jeopardy, we learned on Sunday, January 12 from a police and municipal source.
Saturday January 11 around 8 p.m., in the Villejean district in the north-west of Rennes, two men, in a car, shot two other men who were near a supermarket, before taking the leak, according to the same source.
One of the victims, of Irish origin and whose vital prognosis is in jeopardy, was injured in the chest. The other man, aged around forty and of Chinese origin, was hit in the leg and is slightly injured, according to this police source.

Sunday evening, the mayor of Rennes Nathalie Appéré mentioned in a press release the “extremely serious violence which occurred at Kennedy Square, in Villejean, on the evening of Saturday January 11”. The elected official went to the scene “provide support to residents and take stock of the situation with the police forces deployed in the neighborhood.”
“A turf war between drug traffickers”
“For almost three weeks, the Villejean district has been facing a turf war between drug traffickers. The violence has escalated in recent days”explained the elected official, indicating that the vital prognosis of the fifty-year-old remained “still engaged this Sunday afternoon”. Nathalie Appéré said she spoke with the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau and with the prefect about the situation.
“The explosion of drug trafficking and the violence it generates are a major threat for our country, for our security, for our cohesion, for our institutions“, said Nathalie Appéré. “After the mayors of large cities, it is now all the mayors of France who are confronted with this scourge. We need a real national plan to combat drug trafficking. And tenfold resources should be allocated to it,” she asked.
