No less than 26 teams took part in the competition this year, to which were added 566 individual throwers and, among them, a remarkable number of children.
In addition to its fun aspect, it is also a sporting event in its own right. An official jury measures the exact landing place of each tree.
“What started as a neighborhood party to close the year and replace the classic burning of the Christmas tree, has today become a sporting and fun family event,” explains Samuel Serck, president of the non-profit organization Motum and responsible for of the organization of the competition. “Despite particularly cool temperatures, it was a Belgian championship full of atmosphere and conviviality to close the festive period.”
