The Minister of Family and Solidarity, Maïmouna Diéye, this Saturday, January 11, officially launched the Project to Support Displaced People Returning to Casamance (PADC) in the Ziguinchor region.
In the presence of the governors of the Ziguinchor and Kolda regions, local elected officials and administrative structures, this project is part of the Diomaye Plan for Casamance, adopted in 2024 with an overall budget of more than 53 billion FCFA.
In her speech, the Minister specified that the PADC aims to facilitate the return of displaced populations to their lands of origin. This program is also part of the Senegal 2050 national development strategy aimed at unity, social equity and sustainable human development in Senegal.
The pilot phase of the project, planned for the period 2024-2025 and estimated at a total cost of 4.698 billion FCFA, includes in particular:
The resettlement of 133 households in the Ziguinchor region, with the supply of suitable construction materials.
The delivery of three medical ambulances to strengthen local health infrastructures.
Support for nearly 1,000 households in 2025 in the regions of Ziguinchor, Sédhiou and Kolda, through the provision of agricultural equipment, market gardening areas and essential infrastructure.
According to Dr Ndèye Marième Samb, PUMA coordinator, the PADC includes an ambitious component dedicated to the economic empowerment of women and young people, through agricultural projects and the processing of local products.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to consolidating peace and restoring prosperity in Casamance. She declared: “Together, let’s make this return of the displaced a real renewal. »
