This Sunday morning around 7 a.m., a fire broke out in the basement of a building in downtown Sierre. As a safety measure, two neighboring buildings were evacuated, involving around fifty residents. In addition, around ten people, slightly inconvenienced by the smoke, as well as seven firefighters, were taken to hospital for checks. However, no serious injuries were reported.
Rue de Sion has been temporarily closed to traffic, with a restoration expected shortly. In addition to the Valais cantonal police, the following are involved in the intervention: the judicial police, three ambulances, the regional police, the Sierre and Sion firefighters and the Driving Assistance Group. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of this fire.
