Their confrontation with the gendarmerie who were to assist “Flexeau” with drilling work, led to the arrest of 34 people and caused several injuries, including the commander of the Nioro gendarmerie brigade.
The arrested people were taken to the Nioro gendarmerie station, along with the injured who were also transferred to the various nearest health structures.
The affair began last Wednesday when “Flex-eau” decided to withdraw meters from some of its subscribers and hand over invoices from previous months.
This Friday, the farmer returned under police escort to install a new GPS system allowing him to manage drilling remotely. This was not to the taste of the populations who were already beginning to agitate against the high cost of bills and their neighbors who had not paid and whose meters had been withdrawn.
And in the end, they had to wait for an indefinite period of time to be connected to the network again. We are informed that 7 of the 34 demonstrators were released. The other 27 are in custody. They are being prosecuted for participation in a violent demonstration, insulting agents in the exercise of their functions, and rebellion.
