Adelboden giant: Meillard leads the way, Odermatt and Tumler follow closely

The second round of the Adelboden giant promises sparks. Loïc Meillard is in the lead after his first pass on Sunday, ahead of the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen (+0”27) and Marco Odermatt (+0”34). Thomas Tumler is 5th (+0”68).

The skier from Hérémence reacted perfectly after his elimination in the first round of the slalom on Saturday. He took advantage of his bib number 1 and a track not yet marked to take control under the Adelboden sun. He will have the opportunity to get on the podium for the first time this winter in the discipline.

Provisional third, Marco Odermatt made up for his bad start with a demonstration in the wall of the Chuenisbärgli. Winner of the last two giants in Val d’Isère and Alta Badia, the Nidwalden is in the running for a fourth consecutive success in the Bernese Oberland.

“Odi” is however closely followed by another Norwegian, Atle Lie McGrath (+0”35). The duel between the two Swiss and the two Scandinavians, the first four in the general classification, promises to be thrilling.

Thomas Tumler, winner of the Beaver Creek giant in December, also had an excellent first round, finishing 5th, 68 hundredths behind Meillard. Luca Aerni should also participate in the second round, but not Fadri Janutin, who was eliminated.

Loïc Meillard: “A choice that always hurts a little in the heart”
