From the halo of winter and icy mist pierce the two large red lights of the Mornimont lock. This Saturday, at the beginning of the afternoon, no more barges cross the hydraulic engineering structure. A situation linked to the bad weather of recent days, which has swollen the waters of rivers. In the ghostly milky setting, a barge, called “Veendam”, specialized in the transport of dangerous fluids – (including brine and caustic soda) – is in an unfortunate position. The hull obstructs the entire width of the waterway. What happened?
