Leevi Merilainen recorded his first shutout in the National Hockey League (NHL) in a 5-0 victory for the Ottawa Senators against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
Recalled in December due to injuries to Linus Ullmark and Anton Forsberg, Merilainen played a fifth game this season and a seventh career. He stopped 30 pucks.
Shane Pinto scored two goals — one on the power play and the other on the penalty kill — to help the Senators end a four-game losing streak. They had only scored four goals during this one.
Tyler Kleven, Drake Batherson and Tim Stutzle were the other scorers. Claude Giroux was complicit in three goals.

Alex Nedeljkovic started the game in goal for the Penguins, who suffered a fifth loss in six games. He was replaced by Tristan Jarry in the second period after allowing five goals on 17 shots.
In relief, Jarry pushed back the five pucks aimed at him.
The Penguins were without forward Evgeni Malkin for a third straight game due to an upper-body injury.
