“Vidé ko’w!”, first parade of the year in Fort-de-

The Savane of Fort-de- is getting ready to vibrate this Sunday (January 12) from 3 p.m., with its first big 2025 carnival parade “Vidé ko’w!”. More than 30 walking groups will enliven the city under the theme “À la Woulib!”, a celebration of free artistic expression.

“Drained ko’w!” is the call to the population to celebrate the second carnival parade of 2025, in all its splendor, after that of Lamentin the previous weekend.

The City of Fort-de-France invites its residents to give free rein to their imagination.

Fort-de-France invites you to experience a “Woulib” Carnival this year. Give free rein to your imagination and create your own universe, without an imposed theme. Come vibrate to the rhythm of the drums, the dazzling costumes and the festive madness that will invade the streets. Glitter, bursts of laughter and freedom of expression will be there to celebrate together. This edition is yours: unique, colorful and unforgettable!

Annie Chandley, deputy mayor of Fort-de-France, sums up the essence of this edition:

Our carnival is important, and it’s wow!

Faced with current social and economic challenges, this carnival also becomes an act of cultural resistance.

The Martinican carnival starts from simple things. It is also a duty of resilience, it is the expression of our ability to be creative with nothing.

Miguel René-Corail, carnival mission manager at the City of Fort-de-France,

Despite the context, the organizers are careful not to ignore this reality in preparing for the event.

We must also take into account the reality of the country. We do not want to offend this dear life which consumes us all. But there are also those who need, economically, to find themselves, I am talking about traders and others.

For Miguel René-Corail, the essence of carnival lies in this ability to bring people together beyond social boundaries.

I believe that we have residents who want to get together and become a people. We will make people on Sunday in a popular, artistic expression, but also the simplest that Martinique knows, the vide. This is what resembles us. Let’s be empty, let’s be Martinican!

Among the walking groups that will participate in the parade, we will find emblematic groups such as Neg Gwo Siwo, 9.7 Péyi, Alliance 972, Dynamik Carnaval, and many others.

Everyone will bring their touch this Sunday, January 12, 2025, around the Savane of Fort-de-France, to reflect the cultural and artistic diversity of Martinique.
