Saturday January 11, four departments are still on flood alert: Ille-et-Vilaine, Eure, Val-d’Oise and Aisne. In Guipry-Messac and Gisors, the flood gave way to cleaning operations.
In Guipry-Messac (Ille-et-Vilaine), the river reached 2.55 m: a record. Franck Maury has his feet in the water for the third day in a row. His house is still flooded with 15 cm of water. “We had time to raise a little bit but that’s not enough. We’re going to try to restore it.”he explains. For the firefighters, the day began with a reconnaissance of the neighborhood. “We are going to go to their homes to make sure they are okay and make sure they don’t need to be evacuated from their home.”explains Lieutenant Mathieu Plantard. Only one resident and his two dogs had to be evacuated.
In Gisors (Eure), the water level has dropped and allowed firefighters to begin their pumping operations among the victims. Édouard Gherman puts things into perspective: only his basement was flooded. “The city will initiate a natural disaster procedure with the State and the prefecture”indicates Nicolas Veyer, general director of Gisors services. On the evening of Saturday January 11, four departments remain on flood alert.
