He faces life imprisonment. This January 11, two days after the death of his wife, whose throat was slit with a knife in the family home, in Cenon, in the Bordeaux suburbs, Youcef El Yaagoubi was referred to the Bordeaux courthouse. The prosecution opened a judicial investigation for “murder by spouse”. Presented to an investigating judge, Youcef El Yaagoubi was indicted on this charge and placed in pre-trial detention by a judge of freedoms and detention, in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution.

This 43-year-old man, who had already had dealings with the law in the past, but had not been talked about since a last conviction dating from 2010 for domestic violence against another woman, admitted his responsibility in the murder of his wife and mother of his three children, Nasrine El Yaagoubi. Aged 41, she was a municipal employee in the City of Cenon where her death arouses great emotion and where a tribute will be paid to her on Monday January 13.

Jealousy and fierceness

Described by acquaintances as “calm” and “very invested” in the education of the couple’s children aged 8, 6 and 5, Youcef El Yaagoubi worked as a logistics operator and had been on sick leave for several months. He is suspected of having attacked his victim, the autopsy having revealed fifteen lacerations on the neck.

Before the investigating magistrate, “he admitted the facts and argued that he had also acted out of jealousy, in view of the alleged infidelity of his partner”, specifies the deputy prosecutor of Bordeaux, Olivier Étienne. “In recent months, a multifactorial context is at the origin of a mental deterioration of Mr.”, indicates the lawyer of the accused, contacted by “Sud Ouest”.

“There is a professional factor: he has been off work since the beginning of 2024, following a work accident. There is also a financial factor, with the accumulation of household debts and a family factor, with a child who suffers from significant problems, continues the lawyer. We are experiencing parental exhaustion on both sides. In the middle of all this, misunderstandings and doubts appear in the couple. And then comes this act of great violence. »
