a 28-year-old man sentenced to eight years in prison

This Friday, January 10, a man appeared before the Nîmes criminal court as part of the trial for the fire at the Pissevin police office on the night of August 20 to 21, 2024. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Following the fire which affected the police station in the Pissevin district, in Nîmes, on the night of August 20 to 21, 2024, a 28-year-old man appeared this Friday, January 10 before the criminal court as part of his trial . This was initially scheduled to be held in November but the man had asked for more time to prepare his defense. The trial was then adjourned to this day.

Following this trial, the man was sentenced to eight years in prison. However, according to our colleagues from Bleu, the defendant will appeal this conviction.

In this case, the individual assured that he was not in France at the time of the events and his lawyer, Me Dounia Hamchouch, had requested additional information.

During the debates, the defendant claimed that he was in Spain for a week, between August 19 and 24, France Bleu explained last November.

A 15-year-old already sentenced

He claimed to have returned from Morocco where he had gone to attend his grandmother’s funeral. According to him, he could not have been present in Nîmes at the time of the events. This man is accused of having accompanied the 15-year-old teenager, considered to be the alleged perpetrator and sentenced in December to three years in prison, including two years suspended, and retention in a closed educational center, in this operation.

While awaiting his judgment, the man, imprisoned in connection with another case, was kept in detention.

It should also be noted that four other people were arrested before being released because “no serious or consistent evidence of having participated in the facts was found” against them, explained the public prosecutor of Nîmes. Cécile Gesnac.
