Hit by an unlicensed car, a baby in a coma, the alleged 14-year-old driver indicted

The infant “suffers from serious head trauma” and his vital prognosis is in jeopardy, specifies the prosecutor. The child’s mother suffered a knee injury.

A 14-year-old teenager was indicted on Friday, two days after hitting the stroller of an eight-month-old baby with an unlicensed car, whose vital prognosis is in jeopardy, announced the prosecutor’s office.

Wednesday in Avion (Pas-de-), “an unlicensed vehicle (…) hit the stroller on a protected crossing, throwing the child several meters” then fleeing, said Arras prosecutor Sylvain Barbier in a press release.

Transported to University Hospital, the infant “suffers from serious head trauma. His vital prognosis is in jeopardy and he remains, to this day, in intensive care.”said the prosecutor. The child’s mother suffered a knee injury and was also taken to hospital in shock.

The alleged driver was identified, arrested and taken into custody on Thursday, then indicted on Friday for “unintentional injuries with incapacity for more than three months by driver of land motor vehicle and hit and run”for which he faces five years in prison, underlined the prosecutor.

The accused will also be subject to a provisional judicial educational measure. The custody of his passenger, also arrested, was lifted on Thursday at the end of the day, said the Arras prosecutor’s office.
