Negotiations, pension reform, NFP… Patrick Kanner’s 8:30 a.m. franceinfo

Patrick Kanner, senator from the North and president of the socialist group in the Senate, is the guest on 8:30 a.m. franceinfo on Friday January 10, 2025. Negotiations, pension reform, NFP… He answered questions fromAlix Bouilhaguet and Hadrien Bect.

“It’s at the end of the fair that we count the dung”

Discussions continue, in Bercy, between Éric Lombard, Minister of the Economy, Amélie de Montchalin, Minister of Public Accounts, and the left, excluding Insoumis, with a view to finalizing a budget. The leader of the socialist senators, Patrick Kanner, believes that these exchanges are taking place in “a constructive climate”. However, he remains cautious in launching this “popular adage” : “It’s at the end of the fair that we count the dung”.

“I hope to find a good compromise agreement, but for the moment we are not sure because the cycle [des négociations] is not finished”adds Patrick Kanner. The socialist senator launches an appeal to the Prime Minister, François Bayrou. The P.S. “wish to meet” before the general policy declaration, Tuesday at 3 p.m. “If he doesn’t want to receive us that wouldn’t be a very good sign.”he warns, not excluding censorship.

“We are asking for a suspension or the equivalent” of the pension reform

Concerning pension reform, François Bayrou proposes to reopen negotiations “within six months” with social partners and political forces. “We say ‘yes'”answers Patrick Kanner, “during this time, we request a suspension or the equivalent.” But he concedes, “suspension has a cost”, and he counts on “the reserve fund” to finance this cost which he estimates to “2 or 3 billion euros”.

The increase in the retirement age, set at 64 years in the criticized reform, must “to be reworked”estimates Patrick Kanner. “I sensed some changes from the government”announces the socialist senator who is participating in the ongoing negotiations in Bercy on the budget with the political forces.

“Mr. Mélenchon is agitated. We are acting.”

Is the non-censorship agreement based solely on the question of pension reform? “We have five packages of subjects”recalls the socialist who lists “pensions, purchasing power, ecological bifurcation, the state of public service and tax justice”. “We want answers on all of these issues. So if we are heard on the proposals made there will be no censorship from the socialists”answers Patrick Kanner,

Negotiations between the government and part of the left, which are not to the taste of the leader of Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. In a tweet, he accuses the PS and EELV of negotiate behind the back of the NFP”to demonstrate “total disrespect for our alliance” and to be negotiators “ridiculous servility”. Patrick Kanner notes this, with France Insoumise “we have different strategic lines” but they do not justify the “insulting remarks”.“Mr. Mélenchon is agitated. We are acting.” He adds that if “we are bringing back positive measures for the country, while remaining in firm opposition, this left of the government will have done the job.”
