Vianode is a company created by Elkem, we learn on its website. Research and development to produce durable, high-quality anodes began in 2016.
For strategic questions, it is practically impossible to know the companies with which the Port of Saguenay administration is having discussions.
Asked about Vianode on Thursday morning, the manager of community relations and communications, François St-Gelais, did not deviate from the rule. But hey, if the minister says so.
“We receive a lot of promoters and there is interest in the port. We continue to develop infrastructure to be even more attractive, but we are not confirming anything,” Mr. St-Gelais simply replied.
Ms. Fréchette is scheduled to visit the site on Friday for a quick tour of the site and to discuss a few issues.
In December, it was revealed that the promoter of the BlackRock project, Strategic Resources, wishes to build a high-quality iron pellet plant on the site located in La Baie.
Discussions with First Phosphate are also still ongoing.
Who is Vianode?
Viannode, owned by Elkem, has set itself the objective of replacing traditional anodic graphite with graphite which has a smaller ecological footprint. This mineral accounts for most of the weight of lithium-ion batteries.
On the company’s website, we read that research and development began in 2016 at the Norwegian factory in Elkem.
Its first large-scale production plant was inaugurated last October in Herøya in Norway and during 2024 negotiations were held to find a site in North America. The establishment of a factory is planned there in 2027.
