When Queen Mathilde of Belgium copied one of her neighbors

This January 9, Queen Mathilde of Belgium made a remarkable entrance during the traditional New Year’s reception, an annual event where she and King Philippe welcome the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Brussels. To receive her guests, the Queen of the Belgians opted for an outfit by Natan, her favorite designer, a choice she had already made the previous year. But this time, one detail did not fail to get people talking: her look, both elegant and refined, seemed strangely familiar.

Like a sense of deja vu

Indeed, the wife of King Philippe wore a top, composed of a white bardot collar and a black sequin skirt. An outfit that was continued with magnificent dangling earrings and matching bracelets. And it turns out that Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg had chosen the same outfit, during a private lunch with… the Belgian royal family in December 2024. It’s not difficult to imagine that the queen Mathilde, during this meeting, was seduced, to the point of deciding to adopt him in turn.

Its look, while remaining a work of its appointed designer, seems to pay homage to that of the Luxembourg Grand Duchess. He subtly reminds us that even members of royal families draw on trends and the wardrobes of others, that they seek new inspiration to start the year with a wardrobe and new ideas. On January 14, a new reception will take place at the palace, perhaps the queen will then be tempted by a more Scandinavian or British style… Who knows?
