Ghana’s recent decision to suspend diplomatic relations with the so-called “Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic” (SADR) made headlines in Italy, sparking significant interest in several media outlets. Italian media Italpress openly welcomed the formalization of this decision, announced by a document from the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs transmitted to its Moroccan counterpart. This document reaffirms Ghana’s support for the efforts made by Morocco, in particular for a lasting political solution acceptable to all parties, within the framework of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.
Italpress also recalls that this decision marks a significant turning point in the position of Ghana, which recognized the fictitious republic in 1979. This readjustment testifies to deep strategic reflection, reinforced by Moroccan diplomacy under the visionary leadership of King Mohammed VI.
