Olympic half-pipe champion in 2014, Iouri Podladtchikov will make his return to competition next week at the Laax Open, announces Swiss-Ski. The 36-year-old from Zurich had retired from high-level sport in August 2020.
“I still feel incredible desire and joy,” said “I-Pod”, quoted in a Swiss-Ski press release. He claims to have “spent as much time in the snow as in my best years” and emphasizes that he has never digested his package for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics.
Victim of head trauma during a fall at the favorite discipline at the World Championships in Park City.
2026 Olympic Games in sight
With a bruised body, he announced the end of his sporting career in the summer of 2020, with a remarkable record: three medals at the World Championships – gold in 2013 in Canada, silver in 2011 and 2017 – seven medals at the X-Games and 14 World Cup podium places.
Yuri Podladtchikov, who devoted himself mainly to photography after his retirement, hopes to add to this list during his second career as a snowboarder. “I see my return to the World Cup as a great chance to end my career in style. My goal is the 2026 Olympic Games,” he explains.
His return to the forefront is planned for Friday 17 in Laax, the same place where he competed in his last competition at the highest level. “Recently, I’ve spent as much time in the snow as in my best years,” he assures, and “I feel great on the board.”
