Marie Khone Faye is committed to the education of girls in Senegal

On the occasion of National Girls’ Education Day celebrated recently at Cicad de Diamniadio, the First Lady of Senegal, Marie Khone Faye, renewed her commitment to girls’ education. This meeting served as a platform to call for general mobilization in order to overcome the obstacles to access to education for all young girls. She affirmed her support by proclaiming: “I am the standard bearer for this noble cause and I am committed to your side to ensure that all girls are in school and thrive in a safe, secure and educational environment. inclusive”.

Among the speakers, Marie Khone Faye launched a call for collective action, addressing in particular the Minister of National Education, Moustapha Guirassy. She insisted on the importance of collective synergy to build an ambitious educational society. “Girls are inviting us,” she said, also emphasizing the need to advocate for girls’ education at the national and international levels.

The theme of this day, “For quality inclusive education, girls get involved and engage the community”, underlines, according to the First Lady, the fundamental impact of girls’ education on socio-economic development. She said girls who receive quality education not only acquire skills and knowledge but also develop self-confidence.

For his part, Moustapha Guirassy expressed his opinion on the strategies to adopt to improve the situation of young girls. He encouraged a reorientation of efforts to ensure adequate access to education, even in times of crisis, by fostering a safe and inclusive environment. Guirassy stressed the importance of dialogue and creating spaces for young people to express themselves on issues that concern them.

This day, as reported by our colleagues from the ‘Le Quotidien’ site, is seen as a crucial moment to strengthen commitment to the education of young girls, thus marking an important step in efforts to promote equal opportunities in Senegal.
