Floods, snow and ice: 9 departments on orange alert

The episode of snow and ice which has hit the north of since Wednesday, during which two people died and around thirty others were injured, continues this Friday.

The North, Pas-de- and the are still on orange snow-ice alert until 10 a.m., according to the latest Météo France bulletin. At the same time, six departments are on raw orange vigilance: Oise, Val-d’Oise, Seine-Maritime, Eure, , Ille-et-Vilaine.

Vendée and Deux-Sèvres came out of vigilance this Friday morning. Temperatures were largely negative at the end of the night in the northern half of Hauts-de-France, particularly in -Pas-de-Calais and the north of the Somme, between -2 and -5°C, or even lower.

On the heights, strong refreezes were observed. It is the same in the plains, where the snow has only partially melted. Slippery phenomena are expected in these departments, and particular vigilance is required when traveling. On the borders of neighboring departments, similar conditions are expected.

Météo France mentions a “non-exceptional winter episode” but notable enough to make traffic conditions difficult. Arriving during the night, the disturbance shifts eastward this Friday. Snowfall is observed from eastern and " rel="tag">Pays de la Loire to Center-Val de Loire. In detail, “1 to 3 cm” are expected locally “on the heights of ”.

This afternoon, rain will fall in the South-West and stretch towards Auvergne and the west of Rhône-Alpes, Météo France forecasts. As for snow, falls are still possible at low altitude in Burgundy, Franche-Comté and the Alps.

The winter episode left two dead on Thursday in the north of France. The prefecture also recorded 20 injuries and counted 12 road accidents and eight people falling on public roads. Snow is also the cause of incidents on the electricity network. At 6:00 p.m., according to Enedis, 1,200 homes remained without electricity, mainly in Nord and Pas-de-Calais.
