Morocco’s aid mission in Valencia comes to an end

Deployed in Valencia since November 2024, the Moroccan relief teams which support the interventions of the Spanish authorities in the areas affected by storm Dana, have completed their mission.

Moroccan relief teams should return to the country this Thursday, the kingdom’s consul general in Valencia, Said Idrissi Bouzidi, confirmed to Yabiladi. “Return operations started on January 9 at noon. The teams will stop at Motril this evening, before setting sail tomorrow at 2 p.m. Arrival at the port of Tanger Med is scheduled for tomorrow at 10 p.m.,” he confirmed.

Moroccan rescuers have been working since November 13 in cooperation with the Spanish authorities in Valencia, the region most affected by the floods. This mobilization follows Morocco’s response to support Spain after the natural disaster.

On the ground, Moroccan teams treated more than 350 kilometers of network and cleared 200 garages. They were divided into two convoys, mobilizing 37 suction pump trucks and 103 operators.

Regarding the death toll within the Moroccan community in Valencia, Bouzidi assured that the number of deaths remains at eight, as previously reported in Yabiladi. However, “a woman from Ksar El Kébir is still missing,” the consul said, raising questions about “whether her disappearance took place during the floods or not.”

Floods caused by storm Dana killed more than 220 people, left tens of thousands of people in Valencia without power and disrupted transport.
