In a travel advisory published on its official website, the British government advised its citizens to avoid all travel on Algeria’s borders with Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Mali and Mauritania, pointing out security weaknesses persistence of the country. Only the border with Morocco was described as “safe”thus contradicting the allegations of the Algerian regime and its relays.

The opinion recalls that terrorist attacks in Algeria, although often directed against state targets, can strike indiscriminately and include foreigners among the victims. “Terrorist attacks, although directed against the Algerian state, can target foreigners. There is also a risk that isolated individuals will target foreign visitors.underlines the British government.

British citizens are also warned of the risks of kidnappings, particularly in the south of the country, where the Algerian authorities claim operations against terrorist groups. “The main terrorist threat comes from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and other regional Islamist groups. These militias remain active throughout the country, including in Algiers and other major cities.specifies the opinion.

This observation underlines that the border with Morocco remains, paradoxically, the most secure, despite the diplomatic tensions which led to the breakdown of relations between the two countries. Algeria, accused of diverting attention from its real security challenges on its southern and eastern borders, concentrates most of its military presence on its western border, which is nevertheless considered the most stable.

The British opinion evokes the inconsistency of the Algerian regime, which prefers to fuel anti-Moroccan rhetoric rather than tackling serious internal and cross-border security problems, notably trafficking and the presence of terrorist groups in the south and east. of the country.
