10,051. This is now the official number of inhabitants in Foix (Ariège), according to the latest population census by theINSEEas of December 31, 2024.

One of the smallest prefectures in had gone through a long period of population decline. “This increase marks a significant turning point in the history of the municipality,” underlines the City of Foix, on social networks.

The municipality indicates that it has made improving the living environment a priority:

Foix also explains having strengthened its tourist attractiveness. “Its rich heritage with the castle, its exceptional landscapes and its proximity to the mountains make it a privileged destination for visitors,” continues the municipality. “This combination of tourist attractiveness and economic dynamism is an important driver for the evolution of the population. »

The increase is even stronger on Montpellier (+ 1.5% per year), seventh municipality in France with 307,101 inhabitants.
