Royal Air Maroc connects Rabat and Dakhla with a new direct flight

  1. Agreement with the Dakhla region
  2. Growth in passenger numbers

The company announced that the date of this new direct airline route is January 15, 2025 and that it will have a frequency of twice a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, according to its press release.

These flights will be scheduled to depart from Rabat at 6:50 p.m. for an arrival in Dakhla at 9:30 p.m., with a duration of two hours and 40 minutes, while the return flights will leave Dakhla at 10:10 p.m. to land in Rabat at 12:25 a.m., i.e. 25 minutes earlier than the outbound flight.

Agreement with the Dakhla region

Through this new air project, RAM seeks to strengthen its development plan in terms of domestic service, which would not have been possible without the partnership signed between the company and the region of Dakhla Oued-Eddahab, which aims to improve air connectivity in this very active and tourist region, while strengthening its impact both nationally and internationally.

The two partners set the price at 2,000 dirhams, or around 200 euros, for a round trip in economy class. Moreover, to reinforce his message, the president and CEO of RAM, Hamid Addou, added in the press release that “the launch of this airline will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening the air connectivity of Dakhla and the southern provinces in general.”

Indeed, Royal Air Maroc has consolidated its key role in the economic and tourist development of Morocco and continues to increase its efforts to facilitate the transport of Moroccan citizens in the twelve regions of the country, by increasing direct services and improving the experience passengers.

In addition, the partnership between RAM and the Dakhla Oued-Eddahab region continues to strengthen air connections between cities in the north and the south, the Moroccan company now operating two daily flights linking Casablanca to Dakhla.

Growth in passenger numbers

The timing of the launch of this project couldn’t be better, with an increase of 35.94% in the number of passengers passing through Dakhla airport during the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, which could mean an increase for this year.

At the end of September 2024, some 228,932 passengers were documented compared to 168,411 passengers recorded during the same period in 2023, according to data from the National Airports Office (ONDA), which also recorded an increase of 39 .81% of air traffic in September compared to the same period in 2023. Likewise, during the same period in 2024, Moroccan airports recorded a record 24,274,324 passengers, an increase of 19.66% compared to the previous year.

The launch of the direct Rabat-Dakhla route undoubtedly testifies to the intelligence and commitment of Royal Air Maroc in the development of the national air network, the opening up of remote regions and the promotion of local tourism. This approach is also clearly in line with the objectives of the program contract signed in July 2023 with the Moroccan government.
