Placed for investigation from November 20 to December 19, 2024, the long-term redevelopment project for the Place de la Gare in Lausanne and its related streets gave rise to 17 oppositions and four observations. Conciliation sessions will take place soon with the opponents, the City indicated on Tuesday.
“These 21 returns, a reasonable number given the importance of the project, will be analyzed to see if they can lead to the adaptation of certain elements,” explains Natacha Litzistorf, Lausanne municipal official in charge of housing and the environment. and architecture. In the event of a substantial adaptation of the project, a complementary public inquiry will take place during the year, it is specified.
The final project will then be sent to the Municipal Council for adoption, then to the General Directorate of Mobility and Roads for approval. The building permit is expected for 2027, in order to be able to begin the work “in close coordination with the progress of the transformation and expansion of the station”, underlines the City. And we will probably have to wait until 2036-2037 for the work to be completed.
Pedestrians will be kings there
The City of Lausanne presented mid-November the face of the future Place de la Gare and its related streets. The square will be completely renewed with the creation of two stepped esplanades, separated by a central alley. “Generous urban furniture” and “rich arborization” with the planting of 70 trees are planned.
-Buses will once again benefit from stops directly on the square. Cars will still be able to circulate, but their speed will be limited to 30 km/h and certain access points (notably on Avenue William-Fraisse) will be prohibited. The square will be 75% dedicated to pedestrians, compared to 35% today. Around ten access points – stairs, ramps, elevators, escalators – will connect the surface to the station basement.
In terms of costs, the budget for the development of Place de la Gare amounts to 16 million francs. It is financed according to the following distribution: Confederation 46%, CFF Immobilier 12.3%, Canton 32.2%, City 9.5%. For the related streets, the budget reaches 13 million. It is 100% funded by the City.
