Five points of progress in 2021, four the following year, then three in 2023… Before a drop in 2024, a first. The market shares of electric cars continued to increase in Switzerland, but less and less significantly. Then last year marked a break: 19.3% of electric cars registered in the country were totally electric, compared to a share of 20.9% in 2023. This is only a jolt, estimate two experts , who expect a rebound in 2025.
Generally speaking, the figures published Friday by the umbrella organization Auto-Suisse show a market in decline. Before the pandemic, 300,000 new vehicles, all engines combined, were sold per year in Switzerland. Only 239,535 cars were sold in 2024, a decline of 5% compared to 2023. And in the midst of this slump, 100% electric vehicles did even worse, posting a decline of 12.5% in 2024, with 46 141 units. Tesla’s share in this segment was 19.3%. At the same time, if we also take into account hybrids with and without the possibility of external charging, we see that so-called alternative propulsions increase, to 61.6% of the total.
