EEmmanuel Macron stressed that his recent visit to Morocco, at the end of October 2024, had marked a turning point in relations between the two countries: “One of the important moments of recent months has been what we have managed to build with His Majesty King Mohammed VI during the state visit”, he said.
“We have built a completely new partnership for decades to come. He is in all areas. It is of unprecedented ambition and it is, for me, truly constitutive of this new approach”, he added.
The French president also reaffirmed the importance of Morocco in France’s African strategy for 2025, becoming “one of the relays for a reinvented African approach, that is to say that we will have Franco-Moroccan projects on the African continent as another way of approaching this continent and changing the outlook towards France”.
This declaration comes in a context where relations between Paris and several African countries have been tested in recent years. France now seems to want to reposition its partnerships in Africa by relying on historic allies like Morocco.
During his visit last October, several strategic agreements were signed between the two countries, marking a new stage in their cooperation.
