New year, but old tensions. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, as in 2024, deplored the discussions between the Socialist Party and the government on the budget, Monday January 6. “The PS’s negotiation with the Macron-Bayrou government is his sole responsibility”wrote the founder of La France insoumise on of Public Accounts on the 2025 budget. A meeting which displeases LFI, with which the PS formed the coalition of the New Popular Front for the legislative elections of June 2024, alongside environmentalists and communists.
“The NFP was neither informed nor contacted beforehand. LFI will therefore not be concerned by the lentil dish served to Olivier Faure. The Insoumis are not committed by the non-censorship negotiated by the PS”added Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The coordinator of La France insoumise, Manuel Bompard, also reacted on X: “Olivier Faure, wake up: the New Popular Front was formed to offer an alternative to Macronism. Not to ensure its continuity.”
At the end of the almost two-hour interview in Bercy, Olivier Faure warned: “This Monday took place a meeting which we hope will be useful, but we reminded (…) that we were not ready to sell ourselves and that if there were not remarkable concessions for the French and the French, we were ready again to take our responsibilities, including through censorship.”
