Carbon monoxide poisoning in Val-d'Oise: four victims hospitalized

Val-d'Oise firefighters are calling for vigilance following two interventions carried out a few hours apart for carbon monoxide poisoning. While they had taken care of four victims who had inhaled toxic gas in Saint-Leu-la-Forêt during the night of Saturday January 4 to Sunday January 5, 2025, they were dispatched once again at the end of the day to -sur-Seine.

It was the occupants of the Chemin des Bœufs pavilion who raised the alarm at 7:41 p.m. presenting the first symptoms of Co poisoning. According to initial findings, the gas leak was the result of a oil boiler malfunction.

Slightly intoxicated, four women, aged 10 to 70, were transported urgently to the hospital center to be examined. A 3-year-old child was also taken care of by his father.

A hundred deaths per year

Odorless, colorless and non-irritating, carbon monoxide is an extremely dangerous gas that causes poisoning and deaths of around a hundred people in per year. It is released when a gas, wood or coal-burning appliance malfunctions. If possible, install a carbon monoxide detector in your home. Ventilate your home, even in cold weather. The ideal is to ventilate for at least 10 minutes per day. And above all, do not use makeshift heating devices (barbecues, braziers, etc.) inside your home! Never operate auxiliary heaters continuously. Position generators outside homes. »
