a new change for DAZN, which will relaunch the Sunday multiplex

According to information from the En Pleine Lucarne site, DAZN will relaunch the multiplex of Sunday Ligue 1 matches, a service that the channel has not offered since acquiring the rights this season.

A long-awaited return. According to information from the En Pleine Lucarne site, DAZN will relaunch the Sunday afternoon multiplex for matches scheduled for 5:15 p.m. The British channel, which has held the broadcast rights to eight Ligue 1 matches since last summer and until 2029, did not offer this service, contenting itself with only offering dry matches. He finally decided to return to this habit from the next day (the 17th).

New hours from Sunday

The event will be hosted by journalist Georges Quirino. Next Sunday, it will only concern two matches: - and -. The former broadcaster Amazon Prime Video offered a multiplex for meetings at 3 p.m. on Sundays. Since then, the programming has evolved for the new rights period from 2024 to 2029 with the removal of the match at 1 p.m., a single meeting scheduled at 3 p.m. and three at 5 p.m. Again, the schedule changed last December.

Kick-offs for Sunday afternoon matches will take place fifteen minutes later from this weekend. “This arrangement meets the need to have a greater interval between the end of the match starting at 3 p.m. and the start of the matches at 5:15 p.m., and thus to offer viewers better editorialization of the late afternoon matches,” the Professional League (LFP) justified itself in its press release.

The return of the multiplex comes in a context of openness and calming of DAZN, which recently implemented a new subscription offer at 69 euros until July. This comes after a backlash against the British group, accused of charging prices that are far too expensive before offering some promotions. The broadcaster has never communicated on the number of subscribers but if it does not reach the milestone of 1.5 million subscribers on December 1, 2025, it will have to decide with the LFP whether or not to activate the exit clause from the Ligue 1 broadcast contract for the period 2024-2029 at the end of next season.
