Birdlife is offering the whole of Switzerland the chance to go out and watch birds this weekend – rts.ch

The BirdLife action “Birds in Winter” will take place for the first time throughout Switzerland next weekend. The population is invited to count the birds around their homes and in towns. Beautiful encounters in perspective with the robin, the different species of tits and others, underlines the association.

As the days begin to lengthen, the first birds shyly begin to sing. By going to your garden or the neighboring park, it is easier to spot birds while the trees are still leafless, Birdlife said in a press release on Monday.

Voluntary observation

To get in on the action, simply choose a time between January 10 and 12 and note the highest number of birds observed simultaneously for a given species. The data must be transmitted online on www.oiseauxenhiver.ch. No prior knowledge is required, notes the association.

So, everyone can spot a group of long-tailed tits here or a robin looking for food there. Another advantage: the number of species is more limited at this time, which limits the risk of confusion.

BirdLife provides identification aids and other useful information on its website. A high number of participants would make it possible to draw up a more precise inventory of the birds present at that time in Swiss gardens and parks.
